Hires model data consists of ase and oof files and the required textures in tga format. You can download a complete models package from the general downloads page or each model separately from the model downloads page (see the side scrolling menu). Enable usage by of hires models by setting the following switches in d2x.ini:
Hires weapons and powerups have to be placed in a subdirectory of the main Descent 2 folder named 'models' ('Models' on OS X). Hires robots go to 'models/robots' ('Models/Robots' on OS X). D2X-XL currently supports a hires replacement model for the standard player ship and replacement models for all powerups and weapons (there is not a hires 3D model for each of them available currently though). Find the models in the downloads area. Additionally, all Descent 2 robots (including Vertigo robots) can be replaced by hires robots. Currently, no animations are supported. To replace a Descent 2 robot, the hires file has to have the robot's name or his model number, e.g. 'd1boss2.ase' or 'model39.ase' (which would be the Descent 1 boss' model number). Here is a list of all possible filenames and related model numbers:
To decrease texture memory requirements when playing D2X-XL, you can set a model quality with the -model_quality [0..3] switch in d2x.ini. -model_quality 2 decreases memory consumption significantly w/o noticeable loss of visual quality. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
