Crash immediately at start

Post by PuMo »

Hello, just downloaded 2.0 but couldn't get it to run at all. As soon as I open the .exe the new D2X-XL wallpaper appears for a few seconds and then it immediately closes and crashes to desktop.

This is the contents of the crash report:

Your graphics driver failed when building one of the shaders. Please send me the .dmp file, you find it in the cache folder.

Hi Pumo,

please grab today's d2x-xl download. I have added information to the log file (cache\d2x.log) and the crash log file to find out which shader is causing problems. When you encounter the crash again, post the crash log and the d2x-xl here please.

Ok, it seems that with the new version the d2x.log shows what the issue could be.
I have the integrated Intel UHD 770 enabled for a secondary monitor and maybe it causes it to crash?

Re: Crash immediately at start

Post by Adminion »

This might be due to some rather complicated Vulkan issue and its HLSL optimizer removing some flags that are subsequently queried and used.

I will upload a new game version that tries to fix that, and I have put the DirectX version of D2X-XL in the archive now, too - it shouldn't have that problem. It's named d2x-xl-directx.exe. Try that if the Vulkan version (just "d2x-xl.exe") keeps crashing.

Ok, just checked the latest version. Still got the crash with both the Vulkan and the DirectX executables.
For the DirectX one it doesn't even shows the D2X-XL wallpaper, it directly throws an "Internal Error - (X) Graphics device" dialog window and it doesn't even generates a crash report, just the d2x.log. This is what it says:

Code: Select all

CommandList::Flush: device removed (0x887A0007) - graphics device lost, terminating
For the normal Vulkan one these are the latest report and log:

Code: Select all

I made sure to have the latest updated drivers for both the discrete RX 6700 and the integrated UHD 770.

The only idea I am having right now is to completely uninstall and reinstall your graphics drivers to make sure its not them. Please also make sure you are posting the latest crash log file here (please check the dates and timestamps).
