D2X-XL Installation Guide

Eclipse/CDT

First of all, install Eclipse and Eclipse/CTD (CTD is a C++ workbench plugin for Eclipse).

Installing Subclipse

  • Start Eclipse
  • In the main menu, select "Help" -> "Software Updates" -> "Find&Install..."
  • In the dialog appearing, select "Search for new features to install"
  • In the following dialog, select "New remote site" and enter "http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x"
  • Check "Automatically select mirrors"
  • Select everything from the Subclipse site except plugins
  • Click on "Finish"
  • Agree to license agreements
  • Choose "Install all"

Installing the D2X-XL project and source files

  • Select the Subclipse view (main menu: "Window" -> "Open Perspective" -> "Other" -> "SVN repository exploring")
  • Right click in left window pane (open context menu)
  • Select "New...", "Repository location" and enter "https://svn.code.sf.net/p/d2x-xl/code"
  • Click on the black triangle left of the repository URL to expand the source tree
  • Right click on the "trunk" branch (open context menu)
  • Select "Checkout"
  • In the dialog appearing, click "Next"
  • Uncheck "Use default location" and enter your user directory, e.g. "/home/hey_its_me"
  • Click "Finish", and the project will be checked out to /home/hey_its_me/d2x-xl

In case the files .project and .cproject do not get checked out and placed in the d2x-xl project folder you have, you need to check these files out manually and copy them to the d2x-xl project folder (e.g. "home/hey_its_me/d2x-xl").

Preparing for compiling

  • We need a proper conf.h file now, so open a terminal window
  • cd /home/hey_its_me/d2x-xl
  • chmod 0744 ./configure
  • sh autogen.sh
  • ./configure --enable-release=yes --enable-debug=no
  • wait for configure to complete

Additional resources

You will also need the Mesa-devel, MesaGLw-devel, SDL-devel and SDL_mixer-devel packages, so download and install them now if you haven't already.

Compiling

  • Switch back to Eclipse
  • Select the C++ Project View (main menu: "Window" -> "Open Perspective" -> "Other" -> "C++")
  • In the main menu, chose "Project" and uncheck "Build automatically"
  • Right click on the "d2x-xl" project line (open context menu)
  • Chose "Build Configurations" -> "Set Active" -> "Release"
  • Chose "Build Project"

Updating from the Repository

  • Select the C++ Project View (main menu: "Window" -> "Open Perspective" -> "Other" -> "C++")
  • Right click on the "d2x-xl" project line (open context menu)
  • Select "Team"
  • Select "Update"

A few pointers

  • Below the edit window, there are several windows grouped together each of which you can focus by clicking on its tab
  • The console window shows any output going to the console (e.g. compiler and linker output)
  • The problems window shows errors and warnings; click on a line here and the file will be loaded and the cursor placed on that line in the file
  • The Debug view allows to directly launch a debugger (gdb) and use it in the Eclipse GUI
